George Soros and KALIMANTAN TOURISM (2)
Indonesia is and continues to writhe in development. The discourse of development that is now heating up issues relating to the transfer of capital to the city of Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan. Various articles on the bench even an academic forum to discuss opportunities and challenges of this displacement. Of course this paper is not in order to discuss the discourse, but rather emphasizes that according to state tourism Borneo Campaign Director Kemenbudpar Foreign Affairs, I Gde Pitana Brahmananda (2009) is like a giant began to squirm.Long before the discourse of transfer of capital is growing, Borneo has been known to the world because of the presence of tropical rain forests are considered to have a vital role for the reduction of carbon emissions and its vital function as the lungs of the world. Today, the world's eyes were still pointing to the island that position right in the heart of Indonesia.
Recently (July, 2010), George Soros, a businessman and special adviser to Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) on climate change, specifically came up with his private plane to the Central Kalimantan because of his interest to invest in rehabilitation of peatlands. Interrupted these activities, tourism activities also do not miss an important agenda in an effort to obtain a more comprehensive picture of Borneo.
Message from the local governments against the arrival of this figure seems to be a concrete example of service and other forms of hospitality towards foreign visitors. Meanwhile, the wishes of the leaders to enjoy the sensation of the night on the river with a boat tour along the area of Dayak villages and forests that contain species endemic to others, as a yardstick to measure the pattern of changes in consumer behavior or consumption patterns of international tourists to the type of tourism More specifically, ie, enjoying life and creative culture (culture) and original nature (nature) or ecotourism from an area.
On the other hand, the WWF Indonesia (2008), it is aggressively publicizing through the international media that Borneo is the world's best ecotourism destinations. Of course fame is undeniable. The existence of the largest Orang Utan rehabilitation center (Pongo pygmaeus) of Borneo have become icons of ecotourism. The high tourist arrivals to Indonesia, where the destinations are the main objectives are the national parks of Kalimantan that has a reintroduction and research center for mammals that are believed be the ancestors of human beings.
Kalimantan, which is predicated as an ecotourism destination, has become mainstream kontelasi secretly in international tourism. He has captivated the hearts of the tourists of the world. Unfortunately, this momentum has not been managed well in the form of promotions, packaging and publications by local governments.
Not only there, referring to the initiative of three countries (Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia) who agreed to declare the Heart of Borneo (HoB) since 2007, has underscored the international world that the brand image and publicity of Borneo by a third party as an ecological conservation area strengthened. The presence of HoB proactively involving the various elements and sectors in efforts to conserve nature, environment, culture and raise the image of the region / nation, consciously or unconsciously, have been basically in line with national tourism destination as stipulated in article 4 of Law No. Tourism. 10 year 2009.
Borneo as a destination of future StrategicReferring to the Tourism Act No. 10 of 2009 article 1 on a strategic area for tourism, so if further review is in a position right Kalimantan region considered important for the world to have international influence, especially on the empowerment aspect of natural resources, carrying capacity of the environment, social and cultural. The importance and value of this strategic positioning of Borneo are more inclined as a whole tourism destinations, not just partially restricted destinations administrative region.
Unity is a tourist destination should be marked with the planning inter-regional or inter-provincial administrative. Development of road infrastructure across the provinces was a sign of regional cooperation. Unfortunately, Borneo tourism development sector has not been realized concretely in the Joint Forum Regional Revitalization and Acceleration of Development in Kalimantan (FKRP2RK), which then contained in the Memorandum of Understanding regarding the proposed Kalimantan Governor of a development program of Borneo 2011.
This is a bad precedent, when President Directive No.16 of 2005 on Development of Culture and Tourism Policy issued December 29, 2005 through Presidential Decree No.38 of 2005 which mandates that all sectors of development is directed to support development of Indonesian tourism. Similarly, the mandate of the Development Plan of 2004-2009 which explains that one of the targets to increase non-oil sector is to increase foreign exchange earnings contribution of tourism in the region and state.
UNWTO (2009), through the Tourism Highlights of his release have been estimated in the year 2010 will reach 1.046 billion target and blast visiting tourists who want to explore a variety of new tourist destinations are expected to exceed the number 1.602 billion in 2020 mainly to the Asia Pacific region and is also projecting that expectations of international tourists in special interest tours and visiting the area labeled exotic eco-tourism will be the trend.
At this point, a crucial issue that should be considered is, the readiness of Borneo tourism planning, infrastructure support ecotourism and green lifestyle trends of international tourism markets are particularly relevant for development.
George Soros became a kind of projection or a general type of international tourists in question, although the purpose of his visit related to global climate change, but the desire to enjoy local endemic wildlife, enjoy the exotic tropical forest, enjoy local cuisine, live and stay on the river even just breathing the air purely from the center of the world's lungs become markers that the Borneo tourism development is very urgent for planned in an integrated manner and through the formulation of clear policy.
It's time to improve the quality of Indonesia's tourism through Borneo. The government is expected to no longer allow the tourism sector like no man's gold fields.
