First time in doing empirically about the caves that exist in Kalimantan conducted by the National Park Palawa UAJY Betung Karihun and Roberts (1990), a French cave adventurers who do research on the caves in Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan. His research is in the doing of good fauna it concerns life and its diversity. The cave is located in Central Kalimantan is located in the area tumbles Topus, Hulu Sungai Barito. It turns out that there are caves in the area tumbles Topus not only one but quite a lot. From the results of a survey exploring the Central Bureau of Research - Life Sciences (LIPI) was obtained there were about fourteen caves with details of nine caves mapped and the remaining five caves are not mapped. There's also a different cave locations are eleven caves in the area Panat, two caves and one cave in Samali Puruk Cahu city (county Joyless Kingdom). The length of mapped cave passage of 2952 meters, the longest cave is a cave Liang Hajud.
Cave environment has a very unique ecosystem to be observed, because the cave had not received any light in his life (dark), that's what distinguishes it from other ecosystems case of tropical rain forest ecosystems, wetland ecosystems, coastal ecosystems, the ecosystem of the river, and lake ecosystems. So, I save a lot of diversity as well as the behavior of components biotiknya (flora and fauna). Cave environment to differentiate into 3 parts, namely the light zone, transition zone, and the dark zone.
Fauna (animals) that live in the cave also must be able to adapt to lingkngan cave for the fauna to preserve the species (species). Adaptation level of the living fauna in the cave ecosystem is divided into three groups, namely troglosen, troglofil, and troglobit. Troglobit to local terrestrial and aquatic areas referred to by stigosen. These terms will then be used as a "designation" of the relevant to the cave ecosystem. Troglosen group is the group of animals that live bright areas, troglofil is a group of animals that live in transitional areas, and troglobit are animals that live in dark areas.
Fall Topus is scope Source Barito district and is the village most tip of the Barito river.
